Chamonix Ski 2021/2022

Winter 2021/22 is about to kick off and the conditions in Chamonix are looking great.

We have had snow down to low level (Geneva) for a good few days now and there is more forecast.  This, coupled with the fact that we have had snow at altitude now for a number of weeks means that the snow depths about 1800m are good and ready to go.

For this reason The Compagnie du Mont-Blanc have announced that from next weekend (4th December 2021) certain areas of Grand Montets will be open full time (not just weekends).

With the storm that is coming this weekend notably Saturday things should be off to a great start.

Is winter back for March 2017

The start of winter 2016/17 can only be described as terrible.  No snow to speak of over Xmas and New year, an average snowfall at the beginning of January followed by one of the hottest Februarys in years.

However, March is now here and we have gone back to winter, snow has fallen down to the valley floor again and since the 1st of March (today is the 4th) some areas have seen 1 metre of snow above 2000m.

Conditions at altitude are now considered “good” and if the forecasted precipitation arrives  then the end of the season could just be the best of the season too.

Snow coming at last to Chamonix

The latest forecast from www.snow-forecast.com is looking very promising for the Alps!  If the snow arrives as anounced we could be getting up to 50cm of snow at Chamonix town level (1000m).  Temperatures are also meant to drop to around -15, bring your thermals!

We will of course be reporting as soon as this happens.
